Users must have encountered this problem when they boot their system after installing a video card into the computer system, i.e., out of the blue, the screen goes all black. This error is termed as “Black Screen of Dead”. But one doesn’t have to worry, this is a common error that many users face. Check whether the system was shut down properly or not.
Be sure that after shutting down the computer, the power supply of the computer is unplugged completely. Because in a modern computer system shutting down only the system software won’t just cut the power supply. The operator needs to be certain that the power supply unit was unplugged manually. If everything is in ensured by the user, the next thing to inspect is;
Check whether the video card is positioned properly in the PCI-e slot
The user must be certain that the card has been transfixed completely with the slot and the little clip at the end of the PCI-e slot had clasped the card. Installing a video card is a complex process that should be done cautiously, it is not a child’s play. So, it is advised that the user should use expert supervision if doing it for the first time.
Even If the user did every mentioned prospect correctly but the black screen is unchanged. Then the user needs to check whether he/she is supplying the video card with an efficient power supply or not. As modern video cards require a strong power supply unit and if the power supply unit has incapacitated watt then the video card will fail to function. Resulting in the black screen of dead. To avoid this error, the user needs to go through the instruction and specification sheet provided with the video card and deliver the essential power supply to drive that video card. Remember the more powerful the video card is, the stronger will be the power supply that the user needs for it to drive.
An old version of the motherboard and a new version of the video card can also result in the black screen of dead. Be sure to have the latest and a powerful version of the motherboard which is supported by the video card.
Check whether the computer is using the newly installed video card or the default built-in graphics.
If it is using the integrated graphics then the user needs to change it to the external video card manually in the BIOS menu.
Even if these steps didn’t help, then one needs to seek professional help from an expert.
