Last updated on November 5, 2020 By Abhijith V M Leave a Comment

Bought a new smartphone and booted it for the first time? Whatsoever, the first thing you encounter is its displeasing default web browser filled with pop-up ads. Well, you need not worry about it as you can change it according to your preferred home page by using “content://com.android.browser.home/” command. In short, content://com.android.browser.home/ is the command syntax used for changing the default home page of any android devices.

Mostly in any android device, the default browser is addressed as “Internet” or “web browser”. If you open and try to surf anything in these browsers you will always notice loads of annoying advertisements and pop-up on your screen. Additionally using these third-party web browsers is less secure and may result in data leak and data theft. As these web browsers keep a record of every data you entered, searched, or anything that you provided in that browser. Therefore it is advisable to use some trustworthy browsers like “Google Chrome” or “Mozilla Firefox”.

How to Change the default browser using “content://com.android.browser.home/”

Android device doesn’t make it mandatory for you to use the default web browser to surf the Internet. But many times people choose to put up with the default web browser. Most of the time, a smartphone comes with pre-installed web browsers, chrome being the most common here. But if your smartphone uses a pre-installed browser, don’t worry you can download any other web browser from google play store for free.

Just open the play store and search for your required browser or just type “web browser”. A series of web browsers will appear and you can choose any one of them as your wish and then press install. Once the application is installed you can start working right away.

If you already have one but you aren’t satisfied with it, just follow these simple steps.

  1. Open the tab that you have set as your default web browser.
  2. You will observe a menu option with three dots at the top right corner of your web browser. A menu box will appear when you tap it.
  3. Scroll down till you locate the settings option there.
  4. Click on settings and a new menu will appear.
  5. Now, you can look out for the ‘homepage’ option in the menu.
  6. Tap on the setting option on the home page, and you will be asked to enter the URL.
  7. Type your preferred home page site URL and press enter.

Now your favorite web browser has been set as default. Well, it is always wise to have a handful of other web browsers and not to allow any as default.
