Fix “unusual traffic from your computer network” Error

Last updated on December 29, 2021 By Abhijith V M Leave a Comment

Unusual traffic error is one of the common issues reported by people while searching on Google on phones or PCs. This message is usually displayed on your screen after Google detects search requests by robots and not humans.

This usually occurs after you have done a lot of research in a very short duration. Although this is not the one reason. Some of the other reason is as follows:-

  • Usage of a public computer means when the same IP is shared by different devices
  • VPN connection
  • Extensions by the third party
  • Malware or malicious script
  • Robots
  • Automatic search tools
  • Excessive research in a shorter duration

This article would suggest a few fixes to resolve this common issue.

Below are some of the simple ways to fix this error:-

Table of Contents

  • #1. Resolve the Captcha
  • #2. Disconnect it from the VPN
  • #3. Putting some limit to your searches
  • 4. Scanning for malware
  • #5. Keep a check on browser extension
  • #6. Restart your router

#1. Resolve the Captcha

Whenever anomalies are detected by Google in the search history, a popup stating an “unusual traffic” warning would appear on your screen. There is a way to get rid of this issue by solving the CAPTCHA on your screen.

You are required to click on the “I am not a robot” option which is present in the CAPTCHA box and click on the requested images.

After passing the test it would be confirmed that the device is used by a real human and not a robot hence your problem would be resolved.

#2. Disconnect it from the VPN

Very often VPN is responsible for causing this error in Google. This is because the traffic is rerouted by the VPN via hundreds of servers that are used for different users.

Google can put some limits to search queries based on IP address. Users often disconnect from their VPN or try switching to another server to get out of this issue.

#3. Putting some limit to your searches

Doing a lot of research in a very short duration drew suspicion from the user. This mostly takes place when an automated search such as junk bots are used. Users should avoid doing such practices to never face such issues.

4. Scanning for malware

The unusual traffic on your Google can also be an indication of the presence of malware on the user’s device. Although it is likely to not happen usually many times your internet connection might be used by malware in the background. So it is recommended to properly scan your PC or computer for viruses with trusted antivirus software.

#5. Keep a check on browser extension

You should see all the installed extensions in the browser. You should quickly disable any suspicious extension which you might have installed to scrap your searches. If this fix doesn’t solve your issue then you should try to reset the default settings of your browser.

#6. Restart your router

One of the other convenient options is restarting your computer or phone. If your device is connected to Wi-Fi then you are required to restart the Wi-Fi router. Through this, all such temporary issues would be fixed.
