Fix “inet_e_resource_not_found” Error

If you often use the internet for your everyday needs, then you must have come across an error message which says – inet_e_resource_not_found which stops you from reaching the websites of your use. If you are fond of doing your searches on Microsoft Edge then there are high chances you are already acquainted with this error and users of Microsoft Edge get this more often than google chrome or firefox users. 

Inet_e_resource_not_found is a very frequent error, because of which the users are unable to use the internet. This error might occur due to a temporary DNS issue which can be resolved by simply refreshing the page. 

This error is common while browning on the internet. Users may come across this error while trying to open a PDF or download a page. Many of us see an unclear message like –

Hmm… can’t reach this page. Make sure that you’ve got the right address

Or

There was a temporary DNS error. Error Code:  INET_E_RESOURCE_NOT_FOUND

Inet_e_resource_not_found is a DNS error. Most of the time this gets resolved by refreshing a few times but in case the error persists, we should manually fix it. 

The Inet_e_resource_not_found message is usually accompanied by a few explanations like  – 

• The connection to the DNS server timed out.
• The DNS server might be having problems.
• The DNS name does not exist.
• The was a temporary DNS error.
• The website could not be found.

If this error does not go away automatically or even after refreshing for some time, then we have some ways by which you can manually get rid of it.

Follow the following steps to tackle the inet_e_resource_not_found error.

Restart your Router:

Before indulging in any cumbersome procedure of fixing the issue, try to restart your router. Turn off the router for a minimum of 2 minutes and then turn it on. This is a very common solution and a lot of users are happy with this fast and efficient method of fixing the error. Open your browser and check if the problem persists. 

Disable ‘TCP fast open’:

If you are using Microsoft Edge then this is the most common issue that causes the Inet_e_resource_not_found error to pop up. Microsoft Edge supports this feature in that it has enabled the TCP fast open extension to make the exchange of data faster. But this can also be the reason behind the error so it’s better to try and disable the feature. 

You will need to Go to the hidden settings (Edge users only). for that, type ‘about: flags’ in your browser line. 

Scroll down to ‘networking’ and uncheck the box which says ‘enable TCP fast open’ 

Restart the Edge and check if the problem persists.

Collection folder Rename

One of the most positive responses has been through this method. If the  Inet_e_resource_not_found error is there even after trying the above two methods, then go for this one as it may surely solve the problem.  This problem can come if you have a windows creator update installed.

Follow these steps to get rid of the error –

• Use the keyboard shortcut of Windows+R 
• Type REGEDIT and select OK. 
• Open folders as –

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Internet Settings > Connections.

• Right-click on the connections folder
• Rename it to ‘CONNECTIONSX’.
• ENTER to save.

Now go back to your browser and visit your favorite websites with ease. 

Go Incognito

If none of the above methods worked for you and it is really urgent situation, then there is a temporary solution which will work.
Go to the private browser. You can reach there as follows- 

Click on the 3 dots on the top right corner of your brower
Click on ‘New incognito window
Or you can also use the keyboard shortcut
                      ctrl+shift+N

Do your work and then try to get this issue fixed for a more permanent solution.
