Imagine you are in your office and working late hours and suddenly you realise that you have to make an important call to your boss or maybe at home and when you check your phone it shows battery 15% and battery saver is on.
Today in this post I am going to tell you how you can stop your battery from draining while your phone sits idle. Basically its a small problem but it has a heavy impact because you get to know about that problem when your phone is about to die and you can’t plug it in immediately.
In Android, this problem is called the ‘Cell standby battery drain’ problem. What happens is that every other application on your phone will be consuming very less battery but still, your phone will lose its charge rapidly even when you are not using it.
And when you try to check in your battery usage all it shows it that ‘Cell standby’ was consuming almost 80% of your charge which is impossible.

So, what is the actual problem here?
According to experts who deal with these type of Android problem every day they say that this happens actually because of the Google Play Services and other services which are running in the background of your Android smartphone. This sometimes happens in iPhones also but there’s the issue is something else.
What I got to know is that the Google services which run in the background get stuck while working and hence they are unable to update data to the Google servers and they try again and again to connect to Google servers which leads to battery drain.
So, How to fix Cell standby Battery Drain?
- The first step will be to stop Google Play Services.
- Go to ‘App settings’ from the Google Play store.
- Now click on ‘Force stop’.
- Now, click on ‘Clear data’.
- Click on ‘Clear Cache’.
Now, after you have erased your data from the Google play store you will be logged out of your Google account on Play store. Now, restart your mobile phone.
After restarting it will ask you to Log into your Google account for Google Play services.
Now, charge your mobile phone and hopefully, your mobile will not drain the battery now.

My phone uses 4% per hour on standby in my house BUT uses hardly any battery when I am out or at my Daughters house!
That probably has to do with your WiFi connection in your house. Do you use the WiFi at your daughters? If you do, is it more stable than the one in your home? Repeatedly reconnecting to WiFi will drain your battery.
